DTN 051: First AI Discovered Drug Reaches Phase II Clinical Trials
Plus: F-35A certified to carry nuclear bomb, Pentagon swears it's not investigating alien tech, MIT claims superconducting breakthrough, analyzing bloodstains in space, and more.
“We have some amazing founders in the Calibrate portfolio and some of them do a lot better than the others—not necessarily because they're smarter, just because they're much better storytellers. From my perspective, there are not enough deep tech founders who appreciate the power of storytelling."
The Big Picture
Insilico Medicine unveils first AI-generated and AI-discovered drug in new paper
“Insilico Medicine, the Hong Kong and New York-based biotech startup that has raised over $400 million to connect biology, chemistry, and clinical trial analysis using next-generation AI systems, announced a new paper today that highlights the journey of what it claims is the first AI-generated and AI-discovered drug — which has now reached Phase II clinical trials.
The paper, in Nature Biotechnology, presents the entire journey of INS018_055, a drug candidate that was discovered using Insilico’s AI platform to treat idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, a relatively rare but aggressive lung disease. The paper discloses the raw experimental data and the preclinical and clinical evaluation of the potentially first-in-class TNIK inhibitor discovered and designed through generative AI.” (VentureBeat)

In contrast to the expansive field of man-made solar panels, the courtyard of this control center for one of Europe’s largest solar farms in Karapinar, Turkey, aims to bring a sense of human scale and nature to the landscape. Named Central Control Building, it is designed to monitor and control the expansive field of 3.2 million solar panels.
The plant is capable of providing 3 billion kWh of energy ouptut, makig it Turkey's largest single source of solar electricity. I tis expected to meet 2 million people's annual domestic requirements while reducing carbon eissions by 1.5M tons each year. The Karapinar solar project alone was responsible for a 20% inrease in the percentage of solar power stations in Turkey. (via DeZeen)
